The Value of Heritage in Textiles and Clothing

By Leicester Business Festival (other events)

Thursday, November 2 2017 12:45 PM 3:45 PM BST

ABOUT ABOUT

This event will consider the role of heritage in the textile and fashion industry, whether in terms of brand value, in promoting a regional design identity founded on the authenticity of a highly skilled creative tradition, as a knowledge resource or in inspiring new design work. It will look at examples of companies using their own design history in establishing a strong brand as well as the role of museums and heritage centres in acting as the focal point for the identity of a regional industry cluster. Case studies of the use of museum collections in new product development, in industry and craft production, as well as student design work, will be discussed, showing engagement with design archives in fit design for clothing manufacturers, accessory design and student lingerie design.
