Leicester is a thriving City for Enterprise and Innovation and there are many new funding options springing up, from Crowdfunding to Incubators. Learn more about these new forms of funding and the entrepreneurs who are changing the face of the business sector, so that you are better able to advise your clients and contacts, or directly raise finance yourself.

The speakers include a senior executive from Leicester University, who recently launched an innovation hub; the head of Entrepreneurship and Tech policy for the IOD, who liaises with Government on behalf of start-ups and tech companies; and a finance broker who raises and invests money via crowdfunding platforms on a daily basis

Ms Anjuu Trevedi  - University of Leicester - Research and Enterprise Division

David Marshall  - After 20 years with NatWest as a Commercial Manager latterly in a specialist team working with stressed businesses David joined Sterling Capital Reserve Ltd five years ago. His role at Sterling is to source funding for businesses, very often when the Banks says “no”. David works with a number Crowdfunding Platforms raising Debt for businesses in what is a rapidly evolving sector where the various Platforms operate different models. The challenge therefore is to place the opportunities before the Platforms that are best able to provide the required support. In addition to Crowdfunding David also works with other alternative finance providers that emerged through and post the “credit crunch”.

Jamie Kerr is Head of Entrepreneurship and Tech Policy at the Institute of Directors. In this role, Jamie leads the IoD's work on making  a case to Government on behalf of the UK's start-up and tech communities. He also works closely alongside the IoD99, the IoD's 1,600-strong network for young founders. Jamie joined the Institute of Directors in June 2014. Before taking on the entrepreneurship and tech brief, he managed the IoD's parliamentary affairs work, promoting the business policy agenda across Government departments, Parliament, and the Westminster policy community. He has an MA in Politics from the University of Edinburgh.
