The conference is aimed at delegates who have an interest in how they and their organisations can support the local physical activity and sport agenda and equally how the physical activity and agenda can support the outcomes their organisation is delivering.

Delegates will hear from a key note speaker highlighting their view on the changing landscape of physical activity and sport in response to the new strategy direction. There will be an option of workshops for delegates to choose to attend based on the themes show below.

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport's Annual Conference will explore the local contribution that can be made towards the Governments five outcome links to sport and physical activity; physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, individual development, social & community development and economic development. 

 

Ambition Workshops

Choose one 90 minute workshop, exploring what needs to be delivered to support Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to become the most physically active and sporting place in England.  All workshops will comprise of a mixture of presentations from local organisations / professionals and opportunities for discussion and networking.

Get Active:  Explore the new Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland Whole School Approach to Physical Education, School Sport, Physical Activity and Health and Wellbeing.  Learn more about the 8 principles of a Whole School Approach and how the approach is being delivered to ensure all pupils have an active start to participation in physical activity and sport.
Stay Active: Encouraging resilient habits to physical activity and sport is crucial to ensure lifelong participation.  Learn how we need to understand the behaviours, values and influences of families to ensure we create active habits in our hard to reach communities.
Active Places:  Our local environments create opportunities for active living.  Hear from a number of leisure providers on how they have listen to the needs of the customer and made effective use of their leisure space to deliver new and innovative physical activity programmes to increase levels of participation.
Active Economy:  Sport and Physical Activity has an important role in contributing to the economy.  Explore how by having an active and healthy workforce in can help your business grow through areas such as increases in productivity and reduction in absenteeism.

 

Key Note Speaker

Listen to Dr Zoe Williams talk about the importance of having a physically active nation.  Zoe will talk about the need to in work in partnership to support a population level growth in participation in physical activity and sport through using behaviour change practice and theory.  Learn how we need to help people to develop and sustain healthier behaviours to decline the level of inactivity within our population.   

Foundation Workshops

Choose one 60 minute workshop which explores themes which underpin the delivery of interventions designed to increase participation in physical activity and sport across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.  All workshops will comprise of a mixture of presentations from local organisations / professionals and opportunities for discussion and networking.

Well Led:  To reach new markets, specifically those that are physically inactive, there is a general recognition that the sport and physical activity sector will need to operate and work differently. We will need to engage with new partners to extend our reach into new communities. This workshop will help you identify new potential partners and develop techniques to engage and connect with new contacts effectively, whilst identifying areas of mutual benefit.
Insight Driven:  We need to understand our local communities in order to be able to effectively engage them in the programmes we deliver.  Learn from a local research organisation the importance of collating community level insight and how this insight can help shape the delivery of programmes to what the local community wants and needs.
Skilled and Representative Workforce:  Learn more about the new national approach to developing the physical activity and sport workforce.  Explore how locally we can ensure that our physical activity and sport workforce is fit for purpose and representative of our local communities.
Marketing and Communications:  Marketing and communication has an important influence on people’s attitudes and behaviours towards being active.  Hear from a local marketing company on how to create an effective social media marketing campaign to influence people to engage in physical activity and sport.
